The soup is fantastic! I halved the recipe and substituted Fuji apples (because that's what I had) Wow. Great supper dish. The ginger gives a nice subtle zing.

I'm trying the root vegetable dish next because I've never used mochi that way. I usually bake mochi into lovely chewy puffs.

Margo,

Would love to see your polenta recipe. I've only made polenta a few times and could use a few pointers.

Margo,

A good harvest soup is so comforting. My current favorite is red lentil soup, made with carrot, onion and kale. Thanks for the great recipes.

Margo,

Thanks for reminding me to stop by the farmers' market - I feel healthier just walking through the rows of homegrown goodness.

Comment on Is it hard to stay disciplined on vacation…or not? by Laura Clark

I know all too well what you're talking about here! Every time I prepare for a vacation, I can't help but have all of these plans in the works of ways that I'm going to work/read/exercise/eat well during my foray away-- I guess in hopes that I'll return from my travels a better person, or, perhaps more likely, so that I won't indulge in too much laziness. But, just like you experienced in the sunny South, the minute I reach my destination, all of these plans get squashed in lieu of the siren's call of a good bottle of wine, sleeping in, the beach-- and anything that doesn't have to do with the work oriented world from which I came.

But here is what I've come up with to settle my mind in regards to such a situation: As working women, our job is never done. There is always something more to take care of, something more that we can or feel we should do, so that when an opportunity for a vacation rolls around, it is only healthy and right that we embrace it for what it is: a designated time to relax and enjoy days without schedules or task lists. It's our duty to ourselves to reward ourselves with such an indulgence, instead of thinking of it as a weakness.

So does this mean that I don't have plans to get work done during my vacation next week? Of course not! I've got work to do! I'll be right on board with you, Margo. Now I guess what I need is some of that eye cream!
